TOEFL


All applicants MUST provide TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores from tests taken within the last 2 years. Applicants whose undergraduate degree was completed using English as the language of instruction are exempt from this requirement. Students who have completed equivalent exams that demonstrate a high degree of English proficiency (e.g. Cambridge's Certificate in Advanced English  (CAE and Cambridge's Certificate in Proficiency in English (CPE)) may substitute these test results for the TOEFL.  When in doubt, an inquiry can be sent to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  You can take this test at the Department of Informatics Engineering, University of Coimbra (Polo II), or at  Universidade Lusofona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, in Lisbon. Choose your test site and schedule your exam at the ETS registration site.

What is the recommended TOEFL score?

A successful applicant will normally have a total iBT score of at least 100 with no sub-score less than 25.  Applicants may be admitted with slightly lower scores in exceptional circumstances.

Note about GRE/TOEFL:
If you haven’t done these tests before you should prepare for them. It’s highly advisable that you solve a number of practice tests before. The score you get on the first tests is typically low, but it highly increases after some practice. Get ready!
